About Me & My Journey to Dog Training

Hello! My name is Alina Alvarado, owner/trainer with Canine Cardio and fan of balanced well-mannered dogs.

While my love for animals started young, sneaking in strays into my room when my parents weren’t looking, it was Cesar Milan and his show in the early 2000s who fueled my desire and gave me the motivation to pursue a career in dog training. I, like so many of us, was fascinated by Cesar’s tactics and innate, almost sixth sense ability to rehabilitate unruly dogs. Witnessing firsthand what it takes to transition aggressive, fearful, and excited dogs into well-behaved, enjoyable balanced companions was a rewarding experience I knew I needed to be a part of.

I started as a kennel tech nearly a decade ago, working my way up, shadowing some well-respected master trainers in my local area, and seeking out as much industry knowledge that I could get my hands on. In 2018, I even had the privilege to learn from Cesar Milan, his trainers, and other well-known trainers in the industry during a multiday seminar for dog training professionals. A dream come true!

In 2020, the timing and opportunity aligned, I took the leap, making my dream come true, starting Canine Cardio.

My Training Style

To this day, I continue to learn and grow as the dog training community continues to learn and grow. It’s a fluid industry. Tactics, tools, and methods continue to evolve. Additionally, every dog has its own unique personality and nuances to how it learns. There is not a one-size-fits-all to dog training.

The basis of my training style is considered balanced dog training. I use a combination of positive and negative reinforcement in the right context to help each dog learn well. Then I help owners build stronger and more enjoyable relationships with their dogs. I consult with each client to address their specific concerns and needs. Then, we’ll build a roadmap to guide each client towards achieving the outcomes and goals they desire.
